They are usually misinformed. These people are "average joe" of gaming. They are not active in video gaming websites like us.

So someone told them all consoles were banning whichever and whatever. If this is a close knit circle of your friends, maybe one of them told the others. Could be as simple as that. I have never run into someone thinking any DRM stuff about any console other than the Xbone.
