Have to agree. We have used the drive in our Xbox One exactly 1 time since November.  Why spend $40-$50 on something that really isnt needed any longer.

Depends on the person.
I personally have no need for a last century optical disc drive, but lots of other people do!

At-least Microsoft is providing consumers, choice. - Which is never a bad thing.

?? The choice is already there, I can go all digital now if I want...........

You also get a larger more expensive console.  The optical driveless version will be less expensive and smaller.  Likely will end up selling more in the long run.

? More expensive how?  A ps4 is smaller and 100 less and I can go all digital now.,The discless x1 won;t sell squat, ms os off their rocker if they think this will work.

Your opinion is just that, opinion.

You, nor I have zero idea how well it will work or what it will do for sales.
Steam built it's "empire" on digital-only downloads with a user base that's competitive with the Xbox and Playstation networks, so it's not something that should be shrugged off, but watched to see what ideally happens.

If people find value in a discless console as the console will be sold cheaper, all the power to them.
