My top five most important factors when it comes to gaming, from most to least important, are:
1) gameplay
2) controls
3) sound
4) graphics
5) storyline
But as a gamer in the 21st century, all factors above play more important roles than before in making a game more immerse/enjoyable including framerate and resolution. That option is there and should be taken advantage of. You can always settle for less, but do not justify it when you intentional deny that there are other and better options out there.
