yeah, i dunno about the sci-fi setting.
i mean, i generally love sci-fi. and science fiction does have the advantage of "anything goes" with respect to mechanics because "its teh fuchar1" and you're not bound to any of the pesky reality. however, destiny is sci-fi. titanfall is sci-fi. killzone is sci-fi. watch dogs is sci-fi-ish. the order 1887 is victorian but with steampunked sci-fi twists. i've already come to the conclusion that that gen's "gritty military" is this gen's "sci-fi enhanced".
i'm thinking something more along the lines of witches, vampires, werewolves, and undead. it might be a bit close to castlevania but that franchise is kind of dead. deadish at least. santa monica could do to castlevania what naughty dog did to tomb raider. steal the genre/setting right out from under them but making it fresh again.
