If EA accepted the contract with MS is because of the money and they knew the instalation base wouldn't be big in the beginning of generation. (loss easily compensate by money from MS)
When instalation base will reach the +40M it will be different, exclusive 3rd party will be much more difficult to obtain, specially if the gap is large.
