Here's my reasoning.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a masterpiece. The story mode is paced nicely, and has multiple defining moments that will stick with anyone who plays it. Infinity Ward didn't have to resort to plot twists, or even much speech, in scenes like the execution and nuke. The multiplayer is almost perfectly balanced and has fantastic map designs.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's story mode was poorly paced. It does have some moments that stick with players, but then again, it's pretty easy to make the airport scene memorable. The other memorable moments are just plot twists. The multiplayer is simply a mess. A surplus of unbalanced kill streaks were added in. Including the infamous nuke, which gives an automatic win if obtained, meaning game modes aren't being played properly. The juggernaut perk was gotten rid of, but stopping power was kept, making multiplayer unbalanced. Map designs in MW2 are poor, too many different routes, and in some cases too big.
