The best video baseball game is Major League Baseball for the Intellivision.
It made the Electronic Games Video Games Hall of Fame.

Case closed!

Actually, it was revolutionary back in the day. Nine full innings. On screen scoreboard. Control of each player. (I had to link to the old site on this one)

The updated version (released by Intellivision Inc. as World Championship Baseball but really Major League All-Star Baseball) added fly balls and one-player vs. the computer games.

There was a version for the Entertainment Computer System (computer-lite-like add-on) that included split screen cameras and was based on actual player stats. The same programmers who did MLB World Series Baseball later did Earl Weaver Baseball (PC) and Tony LaRussa Baseball (consoles).

There's a pretty major break through in this game, too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but The Show 08 may be the first sports or baseball game where you can save between your games. It's boggling to see how long it took for devs to say, "Hey, maybe they'd like to save a game between the long nine inning games."

Anyway, I haven't seen saving between games in any other sports games. Might be just me, though.
