It was a fad and Wii Sports was bundled like crazy on almost every single Wii. I'm confident that a lot of the wiis out there are just gathering dust. You also have to remember that the Wii was considerably cheaper than both the PS3/360. To show you what I mean, I bought a brand new Wii 5 years ago for £40 and a PS3 for £180 (I got lucky).

Nintendo need to up their game and support the Wii U in the same way that they supported the 3DS in 2013.
