Nintendo made a horrible decision by not being innovative enough with the Wii U. There is a reason why the Wii was the best selling console for Nintendo: It offered new experiences never seen before - it was really innovative.
The Wii U gamepad is a joke in terms of innovation compared to the Wii remote was.
I think Iwata 'gets it' now and will never ever again release a traditional or semi-traditional console and try to cater to the 'dudebros' again. If Iwata was smart he will have the next console will be so innovative, so revolutionary, so non-traditional because based on precedence and just plain common sense that is where they thrive and succeed.
