There have been Elite shortages even here in Europe in the past, but this seems to be due to extremely low shipments, not due to overwhelming demand like Microsoft claimed in the past. One sample seems to indicate the Core is more popular than the Elite and Premium consoles make up the bulk of 360 sales (91% for this sample).

I do know 2 people who bought an Elite, but this after owning a Premium expecting the Elite model to be more reliable.
