Nah, gaming is truly global now. While the USA is still the number 1 market, it's no longer important to be dominant there. Sony accepting a close race in the USA in order to be globally dominant is a good strategy.
AND Sony makes more money off each console sold in almost every other market. It's like the USA is the loss leader market and everywhere else subsidises it. So from a hardware profit perspective Sony is better off selling those 30,000 units a week around those 40 extra markets than selling them in the USA.
