I don't think it's because of the Playroom. Obviously demand currently outstrips supply, which indicates SCE may have been caught off guard by demand.
I'm picking one up eventually, either as a part of a game bundle, or when they become significantly discounted; I just don't have any immediate need for a PS4 camera.
Supposedly, SCE opted to add 4GB of GDDR5 RAM to the PS4 in lieu of bundling the camera. I'm glad they did. Camera can always be bought later. RAM specifications are set in stone for the life cycle of the console.
