Some of you just need to stop dreaming that Nintendo should go 3rd party because they would be sooo successful supporting Sony and/or Microsoft. Get your heads out of your asses. That's just wishful thinking! Don't believe me? How about I said that Nintendo games wouldn't do very well on either the PS4 or XboxOne, and that I have the numbers to back it up?

Let's compare games that are similar to the ones that Nintendo makes, shall we?

Sonic Heroes on PS2 (best selling Sonic game on a Sony console): 2.96m

Sonic Generations on PS3: 1.20m

Sonic Generations on X360: 1.06m

LBP on PS3: 5.37m

LBPkarting on PS3: 0.62m

PS All-Stars Battle Royale: 0.72m

Jak and Daxter on PS2: 3.64m

Ratchet and Clank on PS2: 3.33m

Ratchet and Clank on PS3: 2.47m

Prince of Persia on PS2: 2.22m

Prince of Persia on PS3: 1.02m

Prince of Persia on X360: 0.98m

God of War III on PS3: 4.63m

Fable III on X360: 4.92m

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on PS3: 0.91m

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on X360: 0.57m

This list makes it quite apparent that the Playstation and Xbox crowd isn't that interested in Nintendo like games. Nintendo's big franchises would almost certainly do better than all of these games listed above, but the question is if they would sell good enough. While many of Nintendo's fans would certainly follow them to PS4 and/or X1, many would probably just buy a 3DS instead; we cannot simply ignore the fact that some fans wouldn't buy Nintendo software for PS4/X1, which of course means less sales. Even if these lost sales were filled by other PS4/X1 gamers, it's obvious they wouldn't be enough (since this crowd isn't that keen on Nintendo like games, as established above) to offset the lost Nintendo fans AND the royalties Nintendo would be forced to pay, and that of course would mean less money for Nintendo. And then we have to ask ourselves, what about Nintendo's smaller franchises? Games like Kirby, Pikmin, Fire Emblem, Yoshi (and to a certain extent, Metroid) and others, how would they sell on PS4/X1? I don't think they would, so that means more lost sales, and therefore less money.

Not only wouldn't most of Nintendo's games sell as well as they can do on Nintendo's own consoles, but Nintendo would actually need to sell MORE copies of their games on the PS4/X1 than on their own console, since they would be paying royalties to Sony and Microsoft.

But how about if they were to be 3rd party exclusives to just ONE console and NOT pay royalties? No matter which console they'd be exclusive to would mean lost sales one the OTHER console, which means lost profits, and as we've seen, neither of the PS4/X1 crowds are too keen on Nintendo like games. They would potentially miss out on half of the market by being exclusive to just one console.

Going 3rd party would be a short term plan, with short term profits. But Nintendo is in this for the long haul. While Nintendo MIGHT see better sales on the PS4/X1 right now than they are seeing on the Wii U, in the long run, they're better off making their own consoles since they'd make more money on each sold copy of their own game.

And all of this isn't even considering the increased advertisement Nintendo would be forced to do to compete with other publishers just to be noticed.

It's painfully obvious that Nintendo wouldn't be better off becoming a 3rd party developer. Just give it a rest already!
