This is part of the reason why Nintendo has only themselves to blame for the poor Wii U sales in 2013. Worldwide in December, Nintendo was able to sell 993k Wii U Consoles, and all Nintendo did was release a bundle with a year old game and SM3DW. If they had their priorities straight, and made sure that Mario Kart and Donkey Kong were out for the holiday season, on top of SM3DW, they would have easily outsold the Xbox One (1.5 million) and would have given the PS4 (2+ Million) a real run for its money, even during both of their greatest launches ever. Instead early resources were used for games like Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Wii Party U, and Wind Waker HD, all of which failed to even bring the Wii U to 100k per week in sales. It is great to see that SM3DW is doing pretty well, because its a great game, with some of the best local multi-player of any game I have ever played. Iwata and crew are going to get one more year to boost sales, and have the software coming to do so, but if it doesnt happen, there will be massive changes at Nintendo. How a company with the strongest brands in gaming cant sell more then 3 million consoles in a year is beyond me.
