I work in IT and you get used to the blood after the first 4-5 kills. It's not that bad really ;)

Who is using the network with you? Have you asked them what they are doing? You can block downloads if you know what source they're coming from. Also I would change the wifi password, someone might be using your connection without permission.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
