I think exactly like slacker164.
And I dislike child abuse, and I usually pretty strong empathy.
Sure it's not cool, but the biggest problem I see for the child is not physical: the child will barely have a bruise from this, though it's really bad and dangerous to do this in the face.
No, the biggest problem I see is psychological for the kid. Then again, if it came to this, I believe the psychological problems for both the mother and the kid was there way before. Both needs psychological help, that's for sure.
And no, beating the mother is not a solution and would be worse for both her and the kid.
