The Nintendo DS had developers who pushed 3D graphical quality, but to keep the graphics looking good, not jaggy looking characters and textures, the image would be zoomed in to the point that it almost ruined many games. The same on some 3DS games too.
Here's just one example. FF4 DS is zoomed in so much during 95% of the game that it's an annoyance to use the top screen to see where you're going. The bottom screen options are a mess too, but that's the developers fault.
Now the whole, we want better graphics so everything is zoomed in to the max is a developer choice, but given how weak the hardware is and the developer might want something looking better, it does fall on Nintendo for having weaker hardware.
You asked the question, I thought I'd just offer my opinion. The DS has a ton of great games, but it can't be denied that there are some games that would be better if the hardware was better.

I'll eventually play it. I own it, just haven't played it. Good to know there's yet another person who states it's good though. I don't feel like I wasted my money now.
