There's a big difference actually : the Candy Crush mom doesn't need consoles (hence WIiU's problem). And in average, casual gamers play less than hardcore gamers, so they invest less in gaming. |
I'm pretty sure soccer moms have spent more money on extra lives and power ups in Candy Crush than many "hardcore gamers" in a CoD game plus its DLCs.
Regardless, a "casual gamer" had to buy (at some point in his/her life) a PC, tablet or a phone in order to play Candy Crush, which was probably more expensive than a gaming console; so again, it all comes down to marketing, Mario Kart already has the brand power, now what remains is how Nintendo markets the game and make people want it.
So I ask you, why did people bought a 3DS to play Mario Kart 7 (almost 10 million units sold and rising) when they could play Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart DS? is the same basically.
