Sony and Microsoft both target primarily the dudebro crowd. Because they both go for this same audience, their approach to gaming is virtually the same. Nintendo targets primarily the family audience and their longtime fans. Their approach is different. |
I don't think that's a fair statement especially to sony and MS to a lesser extent.
Here's why:
As far as Sony goes, it was MS who ended up copying their winning formula with the ps1 and ps2 so the fact that the systems are "HD twins" is hardly sony's fault. Microsoft built the xbox and xbox 360 to challenge sony not nintendo. Maybe if they jumped in after the Wii's runaway success, we would have seen a very different xbox, one built to challenge nintendo instead, as seen in their introduction of kinect for that very purpose. The playstation platform has always had lots of niche titles that wouldn't get noticed on nintendo systems either and somehow, you dismiss it as catering to dudebros? Does the likes of Valkyria chronicles, Disgaea, MGS4 and dragon's crown cater to dudebros? or even a first party title like The Last of Us?
As far as MS goes, when the 360 was launched, some actually favored it as the real successor to ps2, because it was the one that got the game variety and saw a lot of JRPGs. Down the line, MS found that moneyhatting JRPGs was no longer needed as the system established it's foothold, it was then it became more dude-bro-centric. But even then, games like dark souls, dragon's dogma, Nier etc are multiplat now thanks to MS initial effort and I wouldn't classify those as dudebro.
In summary, I know nintendo has a special place in your heart but the essence of this thread is to show you that that feeling doesn't hold true for everyone. Is that so hard to accept?
