In the bible, Jesus raises the bar very very high. It doesn't mean we will achieve it, it is only a means for Christians to realize they can't achieve it. In other words, they need God's help (like wings to go over the bar). Example: Jesus said: "Any man who looks at a woman lustfully has committed adultery in his heart". The purpose is not to condemn (John 3:17), but save everyone. And this challenge to mankind helps him save them, because people are saved through repentance, and one can only repent if they are made aware of their shortcomings before God (romans 3:23). |
