I never played the first since the second one includes the first game, I waited until the second game released then got it when it hit $20.
The second one makes some changes that benefit the game apparently. When attacking an enemies weak point it shows up in gold, and on the first one when you attacked an enemy, the ATB didn't start to recharge until after the attack was completed while the second one it rrestarts as soon as the attack begins to take place. I can't say if I would have or haven't liked it without the changes in place though.
