Hmm...it's tough because Godzilla has had so many movies, comics, etc., to build up the creature's mythology.
My first experience was the pretty awful 1998 Godzilla movie, though it is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I really loved the Cloverfield movie, but the marketing on that was excellent, so I don't how much my hype factors in there. I am dying to see the Godzilla reboot this year though.
Screw it, I just love big ass monsters, so everybody wins yayyy!
