I don't see how what you are talking about is different from what I was talking about. Product gets revealed, is thought of to be a good idea, product releases and underperforms, then gets criticized or swept under the rug. If the product performs well, all is good naturally. The starting point of this entire discussion was initial reactions to product reveals. In regards to that, all fanbases aren't equal. Certainly not Sony and Nintendo. Did Sony fans piss on The Last of Us when it was revealed? Because Nintendo fans treated Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze that way. In all three cases, there should be no reason to doubt the developers' ability to deliver a quality product, but the reactions differed. |
The situations are not comparable.
1- 3D world first trailer was kind of bad and a lot of people changed their minds when they saw more.
2- 3D world looked a lot like 3D Land the handheld game and a lot of people disliked that, especially coming after two of the best games of all time.
3- If the PS4 was failing and Naughty Dog announced Jak and Daxter for example trust me lots of people would be pissed.
Don't know why a lot are pissed about Donkey Kong though. I feel like the whole situation is made worse by the Wii U not doing well. So whatever Nintendo does fans will put the blame on claiming it is the reason for failing.
Edit: Also the fact that the Wii U doesn't have that many games made Nintendo fans extra picky. The PS3 is already 8 years old and had 3 Uncharted games. Fans were ready for a change.
