I love how people saying that MS version is better aren't even talking about the big "selling point" feature of the one but instead are just talking about apps that have been around since the 360. Those apps and the new HDMI in feature actually negate each other right? One is supposed to let you replace your cable while one lets you watch it through your Xbox...

We know that Sony have a deal with Viacom already (VH1, MTV, CC, Nick, TV land, BET, CMT, Spike, etc.) and announced the other day as the CES that they have good relationships with other content providers. The also announced that testing had begun on the service and that it will launch sometime this year in the United States.

You also don't need a PS3 or PS4 to use the service as it is designed to work on any internet connected Sony device so even a Sony smart TV would work. Which is pretty amazing if you ask me. Having your cable box built into your TV without having any sort of box connected to it.

Having a deal with Viacom and other content providers just mean they have made deals just like any of the other cable companies.  Lets say you have Time Warner and using the the App within the 360 for your content.  If sony comes out with their IPTV that just have the same stuff you get on your TWC, how is that a better solution.

@ Bolded: Using TWC again, it already have an app that you can download and get all of their service including live TV from Apple devices Android devices Roku and Samsung Smart TV.  A few of the bigger cable companies do the same thing and their stuff are supported on more than just Sony devices.  In other words, if you subscribe to any of the big cable services like TWC, Comcast, Verizon etc, you are not tied to any device or Smart TV since they support them all.  There is nothing really new that Sony is doing or unique from their competition, its just another service. At least until we get more detail.

But it does allow you to have the content from several providers in one service rather than seperate apps for say nbc or fox or what have you. It also allows you to watch live tv, on deman programing, and even use a DVR. Sure some cable providers have apps that allow you to watch tv on your other devices but MS doesn't and a good number of the tv apps on the 360 are missing from the Xbox One. I don't see why people keep talking about the 360? The MS plan for tv on the Xbox One involes the HDMI in which does little more than allow you to watch tv without having to change the input on your tv.

When comparing Sony's tv plans to MS tv plans it's pretty obvious which its pretty obvious that the Sony plan is much more ambitious and as long as they don't screw anything up could be very sucessful.

MS announced months ago that TV streaming was coming to X1. I'm sure they are in the process at this moment signing agreements with various companies to provide service. The cable box hookup was just part of their plan from the beginning. Just because they dont put a new story about the progress of their streaming TV service does not mean its not happening. They already signed a huge NFL deal that cost them 500 million. Sony is responding to them as they have done every step of the way. They wait, watch what MS is doing then attempt to do it better. MS would be smart not to make any announcments at the moment because Sony has out smarted them at every turn this gen. You really think MS just gonna hand over ther North American market to Sony? Sony needed a wake up call last gen and they got it. They are in a fight for survival this gen. Microsoft got too lazy and needed a wake up call this gen and they got it. MS already showed their willingness to fight back. X1 is too important to them. They have vast resources and platform to do it with. They badged themselves as an entertainment console rather then just a gaming console and I have little doubt in my mind when all the dust settles MS will dominate this gen when it comes to other entertainment then gaming like it did last gen. For me, the first solution thats cheaper then cable where I can dump my FIOS cable im gonna run too regardless if its on my X1 or my PS4.

This gen is gonna be awesome! We have two healthy consoles PS4 and X1 that are fighting hard to earn your business. I can't wait to see the landscape a year from now. I love all three, (well ok I dont play my Wii U much except for Netflix and Amazon Prime) both my PS4 (Playing Assassins Creed) and X1 (Playing Forza 5, Ryse and Dead Rising 3) and looking forward to see what they will have to offer to entertain me beyond just gaming!
