That's great but is one of these games going to be actually good? Doubt it...

After playing the 2D release that just came out on Xbox Live few months ago one has to wonder if these guys are just trolling Castlevania or absolutely don't get it.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but if not hope it bombs hardcore and Konami gives it to another dev team.

They don't get it. I saw an interview with some mercury steam members months ago in a spanish tv program, and they spent most of the time talking about story, emotions and all that superfluous crap.

They're talented as designers and programmers. They do need some goddamn decent scriptwriters, though.

I don't see this talent man... They can make pretty graphics (anyone can if they have enough production $$$) but their gameplay is where the lack of talent really shows.

Almost every normal set piece in LoS is based on the following mechanic:

1. Enter a room/area and start fighting enemies in a linear fashion

2. Realize enemies will not stop coming and you can't advance until a specific task is accomplished

3. Figure out what that task is (push a tree down, move a crank, beat an enemy with a specific combo...etc)

4. Accomplish task and move on to the next room/area and rinse and repeat

People don't find this boring? For one I absolutely HATE trigger based set pieces.  "Do this and then this will happen...but otherwise you can't proceed." How about you fuck off and let me play the game how I want to? This completely kills the flow and joy of playing a game for me.  I guess its fine for something like COD, which was always based on this mechanic...but utilizing this in Casltevania is an absolute blasphemy.

And before anyone starts talking about boss fights which is clearly where they doubled down their R&D and presentation, they are the worst offenders of this. You can't beat a single boss in that game how you want to but have to follow the arrows that the game lays down in front of you. May as well be playing guitar hero...  God forbid you stray from their intended path and break the "cinematic experience" they worked so hard on and spent so much money on.
