I think it is a valid question. If Apple were as big as Microsoft and had the same influence on the corporate world, would it be as domineering and evil as Microsoft?
Nintendo today is often seen as the "apple" of the console gaming market today, since it is fighting against two huge companies in Sony and Microsoft. But remember back during the NES days when Nintendo had pretty much free reign over the content of its third party games.
If Nintendo didn't agree with the game's quality, then it would not have been released.
