Regarding including an option for higher player counts, I don't think they will do that for anything other than maybe bare-bones TDM and maybe a FFA type mode. The way they talk about it, I think the AI plays a much larger role in the core of the game than we are thinking. The way they describe it really comes off as a MOBA type element and the game would change radically if you took them out.
I doubt many would want it anyway, unless the maps were changed to account for larger amounts of people, and I don't see Respawn doing that. Most games nowadays don't change the layout of the map for player count, only slightly alter it for modes, if at all. If the sweet spot Respawn found was 12 human players, gameplay higher than that won't be as good.
That was the only good thing about SOCOM 3, David Sears left and Zipper stupidly went 32 players so the maps were huge and awful, but you could lower the games to 16 players and it would actually block off the maps in parts and make it more like an old SOCOM map. But it doesn't generally work the other way around, especially when it was designed with a smaller player count in mind.
