Nah that's the thing nowadays. Protagonists in JRPG must be as cute as they can and have girly expressions. They also need to have some sort of old friend who becomes a rival later in the game and become it's "indirect" love interest.
Yeah... that's what drive these games forward nowadays. Yaoi.
