Starting with GoW Ascension, tbh I saw gameplay videos of the game before playing it and I was wondering why it scored so low below 3, but after playing it the problems became aparent. My biggest problem with the game is the camera, does Sonta Monica think everyone is playing on a 80 inch TV or something, I have a 50ish inch TV I think, and I found it hard to keep my eyes on the action, at times the camera zooms out so far back that you look like a little ant, and worst of all your still in combat surrounded by enemies so I basically just mashed buttons in these parts. Also when dodging attacks I often found myself rolling off screen and the camera didn't follow when I was in narrow spaces. I also hate that they got rid of the weapon variaty and now everything basically plays the same, I know some people didn't utalize the different weapons in GoW 3, but I actually did, that really bugged me. I won't knock it for its story since tbh it does a decent job and its a prequel, so in most of those games the ending is pretty much predetermined.
Now with GoW Judement, if I could describe this game in one word it would be lazy. The story mode is ridiculous, it feels like a bunch of side missions tacked together and they slapped story mode on it. Every portion of the story is split into these mini levels that are tiny, I beat some in a couple minutes, and some play out just like a round of horde, except a lot more boring since ur basically playing alone, well I was. Some of the cutscenes literally last three seconds with a character saying a catch phrase. They also let u play as all four members of Kilo squad, the only problem is they didn't differentiate between them at all, they all play the exact same way. They could have at least had each person have their own unique weapon or something. Now that I think back I think there was only one boss fight in the whole game, I might be wrong idk. Through out the whole game they only added one new enemy type from GoW3, which brings me back to it being lazy. Story wasn't that bad, basically what I said for Ascension.
For both of these games it feels like the developers were done with this gen and just wanted to squeeze out one more game to get as much money as they could, its easy to tell while playing the games the same amount of effort put in the previous games was absent here. I'm happy I got them for $15 and $20 on boxing day, I have yet to try out the multiplayer modes and I probably won't since my backlog is a mile long and I'm primarily a single player gamer. Both games are huge disapointments imo and you can pass on both if your on the fence about getting them, unless your a huge fan of the series. What did u think of both the games?
