Having been a PS+ subscriber for the past month (free trial), I think the thing has been greatly exaggerated. True, I missed out on the big titles and there's no option to go back for them. Anyway
-For one thing, most of the "Free Games" are from Sony themselves.
-With the exception of Borderlands 2 and Grid, the non-Sony titles aren't what I'd consider heavy hitters
-Many of the same games have been available for two months
-Many of the games are already heavily discounted or were just a few dollars to begin with.
-It's only on Sony consoles. The PS3 is mostly effected. PS4 hasn't gotten started yet. Vita's userbase is so small, it doesn't matter.
Here's the list of free games available right now:
Grid 2 ($59)
Borderlands 2 ($29)
DYAD ($14.99)
Binary Domain ($19.99)
ibb & obb ($9.99)
ico ($19.99)
Shadow of the Colossus ($19.99)
Poker Night 2 ($9.99)
Galaga Legions ($9.99)
Uncharted 3 (???)
Xcom Enemy Unknown ($39.99)
Little Big Planet Karting ($39.99)
Vita
Urban Freestyle ($9.99)
Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed ($29.99)
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD ($14.99)
WipEout 2048 ($17.99)
Uncharted: Golden Abyss ($35.99)
Gravity Rush ($35.99)
Now looking at the savings, there's a ton of great content there. Reality is, aside from Sony giving away some of their best content, especially on Vita, there's really only a couple of big names there and one of those was at half price already. Plus quite a few of those titles were December titles, too.Maybe even earlier than that. The industry is safe.
Be honest with yourself. How many of the non-Sony titles listed was own your Christmas wish list? One month and I've not downloaded a single free game. If games like GTAV, Assassins Creed, or Call of Duty were among the titles, I could see being a little concerend. These games? Pfft.
