Sony consoles always sell well over new year's in Japan.

Check the percentage increases on hardware for PS3/PSP/PSV compared to all the other consoles in the chart.

Japanese people spend their Christmas money in that week and tastes are different.  In the run up to Christmas, Nintendo consoles sell proportionally more because they're being bought as gifts.  After holidays, people tend to buy Sony consoles for themselves.  3DS aside, of course, which gets bought no matter what because it's the strongest console in the region.

It'll be interesting to see how much Vita beats last year's 31k by, though.  And it'll also be interesting to see what Wii-U does this time around.

P.S. I read somewhere that Famitsu were releasing some numbers tomorrow for the week we've missed, but I'm not entirely certain on that.
