Side note anyone pick up that 4k 39" monitor from sears for Black Friday @ sub 500$? If so how is it?

A friend of mine that works at TigerDirect got it. The Seiki 39 inch...

His summary is as follows:

- As a TV for watching, its meh unless you watch 4K content

- As a gaming display its unusable cause it doesn't 4K at 30Hz

- As a PC monitor for desktop and productivity its awesome. Lots of screen realestate...

It was still going for $499 on Amazon last week.

My ears perked up when talk of sub $1000 4k displays came about, but after researching the limitations listed above, about the only thing I'd be able to use it for is editing 4k video as a computer display.

I suppose it would be pretty useful for production apps in terms of the amount of menus and windows one could have open in Maya or Premier or After Effects. And even in Photoshop, it would mean a lot less zooming.

I think I just nearly convinced myself to buy one.

If you think you can put it to good use, I say go for it. You're getting 4X 1080p screen realestate which alone would cost you 500 bucks (22 inch monitors X4).

I was actually lined up to get this TV for gaming believe it or not. The 50 inch 4K Seiki TV that came out before this works in the same manner (4k @ 30hz) but it is the ONLY TV on the market at the moment that allows for 120 hz input and screen 120hz output @ 1080p.

Up until now this only worked with Nvidia 3D vision 120 hz monitors and using Dual Link DVI port but somehow in some way the HDMI port used in that TV is running at a very high frequency allowing it to process 120 frames as well as display them. No other TV on the market is capable of this...

Anywho, long story short, the 39 inch model came out but sadly didn't have this ability. It takes 120hz @ 1080p input but skips frames and only shows 60. Bummer.
