I don't think there really is a chance for the X1 to not pass the WiiU.
If the X1 is stuck for too long behind the WiiU then MS will swing their money wand and suddenly it will surpass.
Interpret "money wand" as you will as there are multiple possibilities.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
