No, the game is not difficult, it's actually a lot of fun. I am enjoying it so far. There is a lot you can do in the game especially if you have a bunch of the figurines which are needed to unlock toy box themes and worlds based on that character. Monsters inc is a good one, my gf loves that one.
It's also a creative/building game. The more stages/missions you do with characters the more stuff you unlock for building in toy box mode. Toy box user created maps can be shared online with other players also. I got the game on Wii U and so far it is much better than expected.
The missions aren't really difficult, and most are fun to do. The only drawback to this game is having to buy the figurines to unlock themes and playsets. They can get pricey but if you find them on sale like I did you should be alright.
