Actually it is the calcium carbonate in your water that a humidifier emits with the water vapour. if you have very "hard" tap water, there is quite a lot of the dissolved calcium that is blown into the room as well, not only water vapour. If you have something like a console that sucks in air, the calcium is also sucked in. Same effect as seen in the XBox One pictures with the "white stuff" on the ventilator grid (which has nothing to do with blown caps, these are tantalum caps without liquid).
