The next big NEW IMPORTANT thing for GAMING will be Oculus Rift as a standard(addon) or Virtual Reality in general.
Everything until then will be just a power race - Before that we already did experience everything.
Motion Controls are completely useless and were a time and money waste in general.Neither the Wii Stuff,Move or Kinect will bring anything relevant to GAMING to make a gamepad obsolete.Even with Oculus Rift we still need those but it is giving the player a useful new experience which can be implemented without hurting the game itself.
O.R really has the potential and possibility to enhance the experience of a game already working without it too.On the other side...Kinect Fable ;)
In terms of gaming this Gen is going to be probably the best or the 2nd best behind the PS2 Time just cause we have a console in lead that is purely focusing on gaming again.
With the PS4 the variety and diversity in genres is coming back too after we lost most of it in the Last Gen.The last "moments" of the PS3 showed already signs of that with developers trying a lot new things again or bringing back old things that people liked before the PS360.
Gladly this time it is the most powerful and cheapest console at the same time too so it will have a slightly easier path to go.
