Knack outselling one of the greatest vide game franchises of all time, even so for a couple of weeks in the UK, is a sensation that the press has every right to write about. They would not be doing their job if they didn't report such a sensation.
However, the way much of the main stream media reported this sensation, was awful journalism without any kind of analasys behind it. Calling Super Mario 3D World a flop based on sales of another game in a small portion of the overall market, is nothing more than a testimony of how bad the main stream media really is when it comes to analysing the game industry.
Would we see the same kind of bad journalism for a different industry? Probably not.
With that said, I still think it was right to report about this sensation. But in doing so, they should have asked market experts about this as well. By doing some digging, and not too deep, they could have easily found out about the scenario we see now, with Knack dropping and Mario having long and strong legs.
