I didn't like it either. It was a selfish ending for Joel and a sad one for Ellie imho. But I guess you can't make any sequels it ends the way Ellie wants.
That said, give me another game in the LoU universe before another Uncharted snoozefest please. And if they do it, I hope they up the backstory content. I liked the story of LoU fine, but to me the best writing was done on all the notes and little survivor stories you read about throughout the game.
