I remember back in the ps1 era puzzle solving is common place in game play. Resident evil series had tons of it, and it was core to the gameplay and overall experience, re4 still had exploration but little to no puzzles, re5 was a straight walk till the end, and I still don understand what re 6 was or were meant to be. Tomb raider also had loads of puzzles. Hack, even in the ps2 era puzzles was still important to gameplay. Now the games are just hide, shoot, and walk straight. No key hunting, no strange situation we have to figure out to progress, no puzzles and almost no brain work.

I admit I may be a little generalistic, but at Least the mainstream games I've played over the last years seems to be getting poorer in gameplay variety.

Are puzzles and exploration turn into a indie thing even more ?
