The gamepad is a great controller, especially for games that utilize it properly like Arkham City or Resident Evil Revelations. Even playing AC4 I prefer using the gamepad. You can set the hud to the gamepad and have full screen view. And being able to switch weapons or gadgets with a touch screen button is much more simpler than using a d pad.
For Mass Effect 3 they allow you to assign any power or allies power to a touch screen button, making it much easier to use your partners powers. In Splinter Cell Blacklist it's great being able to switch gadgets and weapons instantly with a touch screen button.
And although the gamepad seems a bit big, it's light in weight. For people with big hands like myself it feels perfect to hold. The analogs are very good and even after heavy use they still feel very new. The buttons have a nice feel to them when you press and my only complaint would be the shoulder buttons. It almost feels like I'm not pressing a button or poperly pressing a button when I push L and R down. It felt weird for a while but I got used to it.But all buttons are just as responsive as a regular controller.
I prefer the gamepad over the traditional controller. I like the benefits of a touchscreen and being able to play off screen as well.
