I agree it is not necessary and you can see some tracks without laser scan in GT6 are more accurate than other tracks laser scanned in others games... but PD uses laser scan too... the new tracks in GT6 uses laser scan confirmed by PD... laser scan make the work to digitalize the tracks fast.
