The Kinect remains a fad, one the PS camera failed to duplicate in terms of the excitement levels the Kinect originally engendered. So, the fact the Kinect was a fad is not impacted by the popularity, or not, of the PS camera, and is not impacted if individuals claiming the Kinect was a fad want the camera or not. On the Microsoft side, it doesn't matter how important the Kinect-based functions may be to the One experience, that doesn't change the fact the Kinect once drew extraordinary excitement, and now no longer does. It was a fad that died. Now the Kinect is just a part of the Xbox fabric, one that we are all stuck with, for good or ill, depending upon your point-of-view. The One is selling well now, but few would argue it's because of the Kinect -- that fad for that device has ended -- it's selling well for a variety of other reasons. |
