I remember playing Dynasty Warriors 4 and 5 on PS2, It was fun for me as a kid. Have they actually changed anything significant?

Yeah, they made it so that each battle has only one viable tactical path to follow, all others lead to doom. In practice, you do what other characters tell you to do or you're screwed. Essentially they removed all tactical freedom. Also, they screwed up the story. It still loosely follows history/the book but they put their own colors on it and trust me, they didn't know what colors were good for the story. I enjoyed the story in DW5, I hated it in DW6, and I didn't like it in DW7. Don't know how it's in DW8. I'm guessing it's better than in DW7 but still bad.

Not all is bad, though. They also changed the weapon system so each character can have two weapons. You can probably imagine what it does to characters that have a bad 'default' weapon... Yup, bad characters can be good if you pick the right second weapon. I think they also introduced some elements to battle in DW8 but again, I don't know how DW8 is. I think that's about it, though. The rest of the changes ought to be kind of insignificant.

Huuum? Dynasty Warrior 7 actually streamlined the plot to the point where it is accurate to the novel. 6 was the messed up one.
