It IS already available to everyone and you cetainly do not need to be wealthy.   From free clinics, public hospitals that accept anyone (insurance or not), employer based insurance, Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare, it's there for everyone.  Ironically, it is the latter three (government programs) that are the cause of the increased costs over the past few decades.

I know it's a common misconception that healthcare in the US is only available to the wealthy but it's incredibly falsified to the point that it's almost laughable.
Those in other countries hate it when Americans generalize and believe misconceptions about their own countries...well, we don't like it on us either.
