Multi-player, clearly. If you count the SMG multi-player, for me, that made the game go from superb to fantastic. My mom picked up star bits, and she did perhaps enjoy the game MORE than I did. And I think it was the 2nd best game ever.
Multi (at least on Nintendo systems, I haven't owned any other) also has to have a fun effect, while single-players can oftenly be a bit boring. Also, for a generation, you need 2 amazing multi-player games, while you need 10 single.
