My cat, seen in my profile picture, has had an eventful and troubled history.

He was owned by a neighbour until he was about four, and they called him "Mort."  As horrible as that name was, it didn't in any way reflect his character.  He was friendly, likeable and caught a lot of mice.  He spent most of his time at my family's house even though he didn't belong to us, as his owners paid him almost no attention.

When he was four he was found sitting on top of a garbage bin in extreme pain.  He had been hit by a car and the vet said he had probably been on his own on top of that bin for three days.  It was deemed quite likely he would die, but by some miracle he survived surgery and was given a cast for his leg.  My neighbours, aware of our affection for the cat, offered him too us, saying they would pay all his medical bills but were unable to give him the care and attention he needed.

A few weeks later he managed to work his cast off his leg (silly thing to do buddy, THAT HURT didn't it?).  We took him to the vet who said that his leg hadn't healed as anticpated, and must be removed.  He survived THAT surgery, and then I renamed him "tripod" to suit his new circumstances.

Tripod was a loving, and much loved member of our family for six years.  He was always very affectionate and liked every member of my family.  A year ago my family lost someone who was very close to Tripod, and he hasn't ever been the same sense.  A few weeks ago we took him to the vet who said he had the beginnings of renal failure (kidneys) and would have at best, one year to live, but could die at any time.  We've seen too it that he gets all his favourite food (even the expensive stuff) whenever he wants, and all the attention he needs.

Tripod hasn't been seen in over two weeks.  No neighbours have seen him, and other cats have started to come to our area, a sign Tripod's territory is no longer his.  It is almost certain he has found a quiet, secluded spot as he did when hit by a car, curled up, and died.

Tripod lived a full and eventful life that was marred to often by tragedy.  He will be missed:)
