In conclusion, without bundling their games with almost every system or controller/accessory sold, Nintendo has 6 out of 15 best selling games. ....that is, if we dont include any of the last 4 GTAs, any of the last 4 CODs or any of the last 2 Battlefield games |
Really, Mario Kart and the Wheel???? REALLY! What else did people use that wheel for? The Wii Fit balance board? What else did they use that for? In fact, I would argue it becomes MORE impressive when you realize what people were willing to pay for said bundle.
Imagine if Uncharted 4 came out, but in order to get the uber-sweet graphics you needed a $40 dongle that attached to your PS4. So now the game is $100. If that game sold well, would you argue it was "bundled"? If the game sold poorly, would you use that as your excuse?
Even with the Wii itself, many people bought it JUST for Wii Sports. Think about that. They were willing to pay 250 dollars for the Wii Sports experince. After all, many did let the system collect dust afterwards, or sold them off.
Another point, if bundling a game is guaranteed sales, why don't Sony and Microsoft use it? Oh wait, they do.
The bottom line is, in the past, Nintendo has been a SW giant. Sony and Microsoft have their share of amazing IPs too. Another fact is that Wii U is not selling as well as Nintendo hoped, but there is still hope for them to turn it around (see PS3 late sales as an example).
