I kind of agree with what the op said, I really don't see the systems selling up last gen this time around, my reason is this
1. The market is getting smaller - people don't like to talk about it but look that what is happening, remove the wii from the calculation seeing that we are only talking about "hardcore gamer" ps2, Xbox and GameCube sold a combined amount of roughly 200mil, ps3 and 360 only sold so far 160mil and remember this systems have been on the market far pas the ps2 and Xbox

Your reasoning fails because it does not take into account a lot of those consoles were sold after their successors had launched into the market. The PS2 had sold 100m by the end of 2006. Overall the 7th generation started when about 145m PS2s, XBoxes and Gamecubes had been sold - even taking into account the Dreamcast, that's less than what the PS3 and X360 did. Give PS2 an extra year if you want to compensate for this gen being longer and you are going about to match it.

PS. Phew, two posts. It may seem I'm a bit too invested in this one but I'm frankly a bit sick of random teenagers / young adults on the internet thinking in their self-righteous doom and gloom managed to beat the combined intelligence and market insight of three companies worth together hundreds of billions, and employing hundreds of thousands of people.
