I prefer the strong single player experience with a very good story. The main reason being that I can have a good, enjoyable and reliable experience that does not depend on the availability of other players or servers. I don't know how online game servers work these days but I read periodically of popular multiplayer games' servers being shut down after a few years since the game came out. So with those games you then end up with the single player experience only in the end, so it had better be good.
The second reason being that I only have a dial up modem connection. Broadband is prohibitively expensive in South Africa! But even if I had cheap and uncapped broadband I would still prefer single player.
