Sony needs to get Monster Hunter on Vita and it will do fine in Japan (at least). For the rest of the world, I'm not sure if there's anything that can can done to "save it". Any meaningful third party support for the console (in the future) is looking quite bleak all things considered - well, apart from maybe one or two devs like Ubisoft who are willing to give the platform a go.
Wii U needs a bigger price cut and better marketing. And new IP's from Nintendo's in-house development teams would help. They need some new blood in their lineup. Miyamoto should follow up on his statement in wanting to make an FPS. If they do that, they might get a lot more people interested in the console. Just like Goldeneye did for the N64.
Edit: ^ Oh, and they could fund a brand new Timesplitters game from Crytek UK. That might turn a few heads.
